The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea filed by 14 Opposition parties, led by the Congress, alleging "arbitrary use" of central probe agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against political opponents.

The Opposition parties withdrew their plea from the Supreme Court after the top court refused to entertain the plea.

New Delhi: The Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud on Wednesday acknowledged the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country and said the Supreme Court is willing to hear lawyers via video conferencing.

A bench comprising of CJI D Y Chandrachud and Justice J B Pardiwala, citing recent media reports, stated that the court is willing to allow lawyers to appear through a hybrid mode, reported news agency PTI.

Fire Breaks Out In Main Market In Odisha's Keonjhar, 69 Shops Gutted A massive fire broke out in the main market in Keonjhar town of
Odisha on Monday in which about 69 shops were completely gutted. It took about 7-8 hours for the fire tenders to douse the fire due to insufficent amout of water, reported PTI.

Keonjhar tahsildar Ashish Mahapatra said that six fire tenders were pressed into service to put off the flames.

Rescue operations have been sent off as more than 150 vacationers were reported to be in the area when the avalanche hit.
